India vs New Zealand Highlights: IND Take 1-0 Lead in ODI Series
India kicked off the ODI series against New Zealand with a solid win, edging out the visitors by four wickets and jumping ahead 1-0 in the three-match set. Chasing a hefty 301, India held their nerve—mostly thanks to Virat Kohli’s calm head and big-game experience. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer chipped in at just the right moments, and India managed to track down the target with six balls left.
He anchored the chase, piling up 93 runs off 91 balls.
Eight boundaries, one six, and a whole lot of composure—especially when things got tense in the middle overs. He knew when to push, when to hold back, and never let the pressure get to him.
Up top, Gill gave India the start they needed. He put together a neat 56, and his stand with Kohli really set the tone for the rest of the chase. Then Iyer stepped in with a steady 49, making sure there were no late slip-ups as the finish line got closer. India wrapped things up at 306 for 6 in 49 overs.
Earlier, New Zealand put up a fight with the bat.
They posted 300 for 8 from their 50 overs, and a lot of that came down to Daryl Mitchell. He smashed a counter-attacking fifty and steadied things after India’s quick bowlers made life tough early on. The Kiwis looked like they might push for an even bigger score, but regular wickets in the final stretch kept them in check.
On the bowling front
India’s pace attack had a good day. Harshit Rana got people talking with his speed and accuracy, picking up two wickets for 65 runs. Mohammed Siraj was frugal and struck twice, too. Prasidh Krishna also grabbed two wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with one during the middle overs to keep the pressure on.
As for New Zealand
Kyle Jamieson did everything he could to keep his team in the game. He finished with 4 for 41 from his 10 overs—a real standout performance. Adithya Ashok and Kristian Clarke picked up a wicket each, but India’s batting depth proved too much.
So, India takes the early lead.
They’ll want to seal things up in the next match. New Zealand? They need to regroup and hit back hard if they want to keep the series alive.
