Congress Protests Against VB G RAM G Bill in Varanasi: Ajay Rai, NSUI Stage Sit-In; Heavy Police Deployed

Things got heated in Varanasi on Sunday when the Congress party hit the streets to protest the proposed VB G RAM G Bill.

They say it’s bad news for locals and a threat to democracy.

Ajay Rai, a senior Congress leader, led the charge with NSUI members,

staging a sit-in that brought a heavy police presence to all the main spots in the city.

Speaking to party workers and supporters, he slammed the bill,

calling it “anti-people” and “undemocratic.” He accused the government of trying to push it through without ever bothering to listen to regular folks or those who’d actually be affected.

Rai argued this bill isn’t just a small tweak—it could mess up life for people in Varanasi and nearby areas for a long time.

NSUI members backed him up, chanting slogans and demanding the government drop the bill right away. Congress workers made it clear: they’re not backing down until someone in power actually listens.

The authorities weren’t taking any chances.

Police set up barricades all over the city, keeping an eye on the growing crowd and making sure things didn’t get out of hand or block public movement. Even with the tension in the air, everything stayed mostly under control.

During the protest

The Police Commissioner sent out a warning:

anyone trying to break the law or stir up trouble would face strict action. Peaceful demonstration is fine,

he said, but block the roads or cause chaos, and the police won’t hesitate to step in.

Congress leaders responded by promising to keep things peaceful—they insist they have every right to protest policies they believe hurt ordinary people.
