The case of Surya Chauhan’s killing in Ghaziabad has thrown a new light on the case. Days after the main accused Asad was killed in a police encounter, fresh revelations have surfaced over what may have really caused the killing of the 17-year-old student.
The prevailing explanation has been over a motorcycle. Initial reports indicated that Asad had requested that Surya let him ride a bike but he had refused. The apparently minor disagreement over something got out of hand and allegedly turned into a fatal confrontation.
But a new political claim has come into the case.
Samajwadi Party leader Ameeque Jamei has claimed that the matter was not just a ‘bike issue’. He says that Surya and Asad were childhood friends who both resided in the same locality. He says that Surya was a friend of Asad’s sister and that Asad was not happy with this friendship. The boy’s relationship with the other boy was said to have been troubled for some time and possibly contributed to the killing.
At this stage, these claims have not been officially confirmed by the police. Police are still looking for any motives in the murder.
Let’s see what has been done.
Surya Chauhan was a 17-year-old student of Class 11 in Khoda area in Ghaziabad. Asad allegedly called Surya on May 28, where he met for Bakrid. Surya reached the meeting spot with the thought that he was going to meet with a friend, the investigation said. He was allegedly attacked with a knife and killed, however. He was rushed to the hospital, but died during the treatment.
The incident caused a huge commotion in the region. Police initiated a manhunt against the accused and offered a reward for any information that help them arrest Asad.
Police allegedly received an intelligence tip on May 31st about the location of Asad. Officials say he opened fire on an officer team when he was arrested. An exchange of gunfire ensued, in which Asad was injured and subsequently died at hospital.
The encounter ended one thread of the case but many questions are still unanswered.
Surya’s family has asked for the toughest punishment for all people involved in the murder. Meanwhile, the political leaders have come into the fray and challenged both the encounter and the motive given so far.
So was that a bike dispute or murder? Was there more of an internal battle between the two friends? Or does there exist another angle that investigators are not able to discover?
For the present, only a detailed police investigation can give those answers.
