The incident that took place on 02 June outside the famed Khan Global Studies coaching institute in Patna has caused concern and brought into focus a debate across the country regarding this matter. The first reports said that it was outside the coaching centre when the shots were fired, and a security guard was injured. The entire incident was confusing, and a huge crowd of students came outside the institute, asking questions and asking for better security.
The incident occurred in one of the biggest coaching centres in Bihar, Musallahpur Hat, where thousands of students train for competitive exams. The rumours of the attack quickly became public knowledge amongst students and parents, leading to serious concerns for safety in the area.
Khan Global Studies founder and one of the most popular educators in India, Khan Sir, has pointed out that intense competition between coaching institutes may have been a reason for the incident. He says that some of the participants may be displeased by the institute’s increased popularity and the relatively low charges. Khan Sir said that quality education should be available to every economic class of students, and he recommended that this could have caused some discontentment among some groups.
But it’s not the end of the story.
As the police probe continued, it was revealed that there had been reports of vandalism and stone throwing at the coaching centre. CCTV video from the area was reviewed, and several suspects were identified. The operator of another coaching institute was later arrested by police, and three others were also booked into the case, according to reports.
The investigation turned a new direction with reports of gunfire coming up in the questions. Some reports indicated that there was not sufficient CCTV evidence for shots being fired. After looking at the video clips, even some of the earlier allegations were called into question, leading investigators to expand their investigation.
Authorities are still investigating the reported attack, vandalism and injury to the security guard despite the allegations of firing.
Hundreds of students turned out at Khan Global Studies the day following the incident, raising questions about security and calling for stern measures to be taken against the offenders. There was a lot of concern expressed by students about the security of their school and their teacher.
So the incident has brought up bigger questions now. Is it just a clash between rival coaching institutes, or is there something more sinister going on with the attack?
Police officials have said that all angles are being investigated and no conclusions will be reached until the investigation is complete. The facts discovered during the investigation will help determine the exact cause of this incident as well as who was involved.
In the meantime, one thing is clear: the episode has brought the controversial nature of the coaching industry in India, the safety of students and the increasing commercialisation of education back into the spotlight.
Has Khan Sir been singled out? Is it due to competition in coaching institutes? So what will be the truth that comes out of the investigation?
The answers to those questions are still to be uncovered in the ongoing probe by the police and the next few days could give more insight into the actual situation outside one of Bihar’s top coaching centres.
