The home-towner of the man who had converted to Islam and had triggered a high-profile investigation under Uttar Pradesh’s anti-conversion law is now back in the fold of Hinduism. In a video after returning, Ayush revealed that he had made the decision on his own after watching the emotional turmoil that his conversion had caused to his parents.
In the video, Ayush is seen conducting Hindu rituals at his family home, and apologizing to his parents. He had adopted Islam before but now he has decided to go back to his original religion, Sanatan Dharma, and wants to live with his family. Devraj Malik, his father, also said that his son had officially switched to Hinduism.
This development has followed weeks after Uttar Pradesh Police registered a case under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act on a complaint from Devraj Malik. He had claimed that his son had been drafted to Islam as a result of a plot to gain possession of his property. Police, based on the complaint, arrested Chandni Qureshi, her father Islam Qureshi and others. An investigation continues.
The FIR states that Ayush had met Chandni Qureshi in 2018 when he had gone to hospital for a leg injury. The two later entered into a relationship, after which he was allegedly transferred to Delhi in 2023 where he is said to have converted to Islam and changed his name to Mohammad Ali. The complaint further alleges that a marriage proceeding called nikah was conducted but investigators have said that a marriage certificate has not been recovered during the investigation. These accusations have not been substantiated in court and are still being investigated.
Ayush’s conversion to Hinduism has reignited interest in the case, which is still being probed by the Uttar Pradesh Police. However, his family has accepted his decision, and the criminal action that has already been initiated based on the original complaint continues to this day, and the final result of those criminal proceedings will be dependent upon the result of the investigation and subsequent criminal proceedings.
