In the case of Ketan Agarwal’s death, which remains a big news story, new developments are unfolding in the case, with the defence challenging the prosecution’s evidence while investigators insist that they have found key evidence.
The lawyer for the accused, Siya Goyal, has raised doubts over the police version of events and stated that there are no eyewitnesses of the alleged murder. The defence has submitted that there is no evidence of any kind to suggest that Siya Goyal was involved in the case, as it is solely of a circumstantial nature. The lawyer has insisted that the claims be addressed in a court proceeding before any judgment can be made. In the meanwhile, the police investigation has shed some new light on the key claims. Investigators allege that Siya Goyal got almost ₹1 crore from Ketan Agarwal under the guise of their wedding preparations. Police also allege that she had planned to stay with Ketan for approximately three years, before breaking up with him and marrying her alleged boyfriend, Chetan. Inquiries are underway into mobile phones, chat logs, call records and other digital evidence to substantiate these claims. Such claims, however, are still under investigation, and not yet proven as fact in a court of law.
Yet another development that has been a subject of discussion on social media is the extent of Siya Goyal’s alleged requests when he was in the custody of the police. She allegedly requested some beer and homemade cuisine, according to the media reports citing police sources. The requests were allegedly declined by the police. However, these reports have yet to be officially confirmed by authorities or spoke to by the courts. The investigation is underway on many fronts. Police have set up both of the accused at the scene and are using CCTV footage, mobile phone data, digital communications and forensic evidence to help them reconstruct the scene of the alleged crime.
The Maharashtra government has named senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam as Special Public Prosecutor for the case, making a big move in the case. The central issue is whether the prosecution’s claims can be substantiated by the evidence presented and will be upheld by a judge, or whether the defence will be able to challenge the evidence. The result will depend on the results of the investigation and the court action.
