One major consequence of the visit was the signing of an agreement allowing Australia to sell uranium for peaceful civilian nuclear energy to India, a country which is striving to go green. The two leaders also agreed to further cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, green hydrogen, critical minerals and low-carbon technologies.
The summit also highlighted the need for more robust cooperation in the field of defence and maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region and investment, technological cooperation and resilient supply chains. Australia pledged further investments in India’s infrastructure and both nations confirmed their intent to take further steps to strengthen economic relations and complete an early trade deal.
Modi’s visit to Australia is the third leg of his three-country trip across Indo-Pacific that will see him visit Indonesia and New Zealand to bolster India’s strategic partnerships in the region.
