Congress leader Rahul Gandhi campaigned vigorously in Haryana on Thursday, accusing the BJP government of failing to create jobs and harming the state’s youth. Speaking at a rally in Assandh, Karnal, he addressed the issue of young people leaving Haryana for better opportunities abroad. He promised to conduct a caste census and tackle farmers’ issues.
Gandhi was joined on stage by prominent party leaders, including former Union Minister Kumari Selja and two-time Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda. He questioned, “Why are the youth of Haryana going to the US?” Reflecting on his recent visit to Dallas, he shared that he met many young people living in poor conditions, some of whom had taken loans or sold their land to afford the trip. He suggested they could invest that money in starting businesses in Haryana, but they felt it was not feasible there.
Gandhi recalled a touching moment in Karnal when he saw a child crying on a video call, asking for his father to return from the US. “The Haryana government has ruined the state and its youth,” he said.
Before the rally, the BJP criticized Gandhi for supporting Congress candidate Shamsher Singh Gogi, who allegedly said he would “fill his coffers” if Congress won. The BJP posted on X, “Rahul Gandhi is rallying for a candidate who openly declared he will loot Haryana.”
