During the ‘Jivitputrika’ festival in Bihar, which took place on Wednesday, a tragic series of drowning incidents occurred in 15 districts. The festival involves women fasting for the well-being of their children and taking holy dips in rivers and ponds.
So far, 43 people have drowned, including 37 children, and three others are still missing. The state’s Disaster Management Department reported that the search operations are ongoing.
Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives. The process to provide this compensation has already started, and eight families have received the funds.
The drowning incidents were reported from various districts, including East and West Champaran, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Buxar, Siwan, Rohtas, Saran, Patna, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Gopalganj, and Arwal.
