During his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Modi expressed India’s support for restoring peace and stability in the region and emphasized the importance of India’s long-standing friendship with the Palestinian people.
In a post on X, Modi mentioned his concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and reaffirmed India’s commitment to the Palestinian cause. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the UNGA, focused on discussing ways to strengthen ties between India and Palestine.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted Modi’s concerns about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, referencing alarming reports that over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed and many more injured since the recent escalation of violence.
Modi’s visit follows his participation in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, where he also held talks with US President Joe Biden. While in New York, he addressed the Indian-American community and engaged in discussions with leading tech CEOs.
India continues to advocate for a fair and lasting resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, supporting a two-state solution achieved through direct negotiations. The ongoing violence has claimed thousands of lives on both sides, with the majority of Israeli casualties occurring during the initial Hamas attack on October 7.
Overall, PM Modi’s meetings in New York underscore India’s commitment to peace and humanitarian support in the region.
