Mehbooba Mufti, leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed her gratitude to the PDP leaders and workers for their hard work during the recent election campaign. She also congratulated the National Conference-Congress alliance for securing the people’s mandate in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
Mufti stated that because the people gave a clear mandate, there is no room for political manipulation. She suggested that if the results had led to a hung assembly, some parties might have tried to undermine the people’s decision.
The election results, announced by the Election Commission of India, showed that the National Conference won 42 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 29, Congress won 6, and the PDP won 3 seats.
Mehbooba Mufti congratulated the National Conference-Congress leadership for their victory and praised the people of Jammu and Kashmir for voting for a stable government. She emphasized the importance of stability, especially after the challenges faced in the region following the events of August 5, 2019.
In her press conference, she also expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the PDP members and encouraged them not to lose hope despite the difficulties.
Earlier, Iltija Mufti, Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter and a PDP candidate, accepted her defeat and thanked the people for the love and support she received during her campaign.
The assembly elections, held in three phases on September 18, 26, and October 1, were for the 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
