The death of a 26-year-old Chartered Accountant at Ernst & Young (EY) in Pune has raised concerns about the poor work-life balance many corporate employees face. Recently, another incident occurred at HDFC Bank in Lucknow, where a woman employee, Sadaf Fatima, reportedly died due to work pressure, just days after the EY employee’s death.
Sadaf, who held the position of Additional Deputy Vice-President at the HDFC Bank branch in Gomti Nagar, collapsed at her desk on September 24. She was quickly taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival, and her body has been sent for a postmortem examination.
Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party, expressed his concerns about the situation on X (formerly Twitter), calling it “worrying” and a reflection of the economic pressures in the country. He criticized the BJP government for not improving working conditions and for giving insensitive advice to the youth during difficult times. Yadav stated that employees in India have lost hope in the BJP, claiming that the party benefits from capitalists who exploit workers for profit.
The death of Anna Sebastian Perayil at EY, whose mother stated was due to stress and overwork, has further highlighted these issues in the corporate world.
