In a complication for the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) before the Haryana assembly elections, four of its MLAs have resigned from the party, mention personal reasons. The MLAs—Anoop Dhanak, Ram Karan Kala, Devender Babli, and Ishwar Singh—made their exits known on Saturday.
The Election Commission announced that the assembly elections in Haryana will be held in a single phase on October 1, with results to be declared on October 4. In the 2019 assembly polls, the JJP won 10 seats.
Anoop Dhanak, who was a minister in the BJP-JJP alliance government led by Manohar Lal Khattar, was elected from the Uklana constituency in Hisar. Devender Babli also served as a minister and won the Tohana seat in Fatehabad. Ishwar Singh is the MLA for Guhla-Chika in Kaithal, while Ram Karan Kala represents Shahabad in Kurukshetra.
Additionally, two other party MLAs, Ram Niwas Surjakhera from Narwana and Jogi Ram Sihag from Barwala, are facing disqualification issues.
The JJP formed an alliance with the BJP after the BJP did not secure a majority in the 2019 elections. However, this alliance ended in March when Nayab Singh Saini replaced Khattar as chief minister.
