Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold election rallies in Srinagar and Katra on Thursday, just before the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections on September 25. This will be Modi’s first rally in the Valley for the ongoing elections, following his address to BJP supporters in Doda, Jammu, on September 14.
Modi will start his day at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar around noon, and then he will head to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sports Complex in Katra at 3:00 p.m. BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh described Modi’s visit to J&K as a “game changer,” noting that the people of J&K greatly appreciate the Prime Minister, resulting in large turnouts at his events.
To ensure security, the J&K Police are collaborating with the Special Protection Group (SPG), which is responsible for the Prime Minister’s safety. An SPG team arrived in Srinagar four days ahead of the visit to coordinate with local authorities on security measures. The Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium can accommodate a large audience, and the BJP expects many attendees.
Authorities will manage access to the venue and implement traffic changes to ensure a smooth rally. A police spokesperson mentioned that they have a detailed plan in place for the Prime Minister’s visit. Additional security measures include deploying sharpshooters in nearby buildings and enhancing electronic surveillance to ensure everything goes safely. This visit follows the completion of the first phase of voting in the three-phase J&K Assembly elections.
