The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has claimed that a livestock laboratory in Gujarat confirmed that ghee samples from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams were adulterated.
This controversy began when Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government, led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, of using animal fat in laddoos made at the Tirupati temple. During a press conference, TDP showed a lab report that allegedly found “beef tallow,” “lard,” and “fish oil” in the ghee sample.
In response, the YSRCP accused Naidu of making false claims for political gain. Naidu argued that the sanctity of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple was compromised during Reddy’s tenure by using substandard ingredients.
YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Y.V. Subba Reddy condemned Naidu’s allegations, calling them baseless and aimed at manipulating Hindu sentiments. TDP spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy presented the lab report, which showed the sample was tested on July 9 and the results issued on July 16.
However, neither the Andhra Pradesh government nor the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has officially confirmed this lab report. The testing was done by CALF (Centre for Analysis and Learning in Livestock & Food), a facility run by the National Dairy Development Board in Gujarat.
On Thursday, Naidu accused the previous government of desecrating Tirumala and said steps to sanitize the process have begun. BJP leader Bhanuprakash Reddy also condemned the alleged use of animal fat in the temple prasad and announced plans to file a complaint against the former YSRCP government.
Meanwhile, AP Congress Committee president Y.S. Sharmila criticized both the TDP and YSRCP for their political tactics regarding the Tirupati laddoos and called for a CBI investigation to find out if animal fat was used.
