Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded strongly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusations regarding the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam. Siddaramaiah challenged Modi to find even one BJP leader in Karnataka who is “without any stain of corruption,” claiming the Prime Minister has no moral right to speak on the issue.
In a tweet, Siddaramaiah pointed out that Modi is criticized by his own party members for allegedly auctioning off the Chief Minister’s position for ₹2,500 crore. He expressed his willingness to have a direct debate on corruption, urging Modi to stop making accusations from a distance.
Siddaramaiah’s remarks came after Modi criticized him during a rally in Haryana, mentioning the MUDA scam and accusing the Congress party of corruption. Modi stated that the Karnataka High Court supports the investigation into the allegations against Siddaramaiah.
In his reply, Siddaramaiah claimed that Modi’s office acts like a “washing machine,” cleaning up the corruption allegations against opposition leaders who join the BJP. He pointed out that many leaders with corruption charges have joined Modi’s party, with most cleared by central agencies.
Siddaramaiah also criticized Modi for including HD Kumaraswamy in the Union Cabinet, despite his involvement in a ₹100 crore illegal mining scam. He questioned why the Governor is ignoring requests to prosecute Kumaraswamy. This back-and-forth occurred after a Special Court in Bengaluru ordered the Karnataka Lokayukta to investigate allegations against Siddaramaiah related to the MUDA case. The Lokayukta police in Mysuru will look into these claims and report back within three months.
