Rahi Anil Barve’s critically acclaimed film *Tumbbad*, starring Sohum Shah, has achieved remarkable success in its re-release, reinforcing its status as a cult classic. The film has now joined Shaad Ali’s *Laila Majnu* as one of the few Hindi films to surpass its original box office performance upon re-release, showcasing its lasting popularity six years after its initial release in 2018.
Tumbbad was re-released in theaters on September 13 and has performed exceptionally well at the box office. In the first six days, it earned Rs 12.11 crore, and on day seven, it added another Rs 1.3 crore, bringing its total to Rs 12.65 crore. This amount surpasses its original lifetime collection of Rs 12.5 crore.
Experts in the industry expect that Tumbbad will collect over Rs 20 crore in its re-release, which would bring its total cumulative collection, including both the original and re-release runs, to around Rs 25 crore nett in India.
The film’s re-release is also benefiting from National Cinema Day, which offers tickets at a reduced price of Rs 99. As of Thursday evening, September 19, approximately 65,000 tickets had been sold across major cinema chains like PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis, suggesting a strong second Friday ahead.
