Kangana Ranaut surprised everyone by joining the Parliament’s standing committee on Communications and IT. Key figures like Shashi Tharoor and Rahul Gandhi were also highlighted in the new committees announced on Thursday by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
Rahul Gandhi is now a member of the Committee on Defence, while Kangana Ranaut, a BJP MP, is part of the Committee on Communications and Information Technology. Bhartruhari Mahtab from the BJP will lead the Finance Committee, and Shashi Tharoor will head the External Affairs Committee. Notably, Sonia Gandhi’s name was not included in any committees. Some major BJP allies, like TDP and Janata Dal (United), will also chair one committee each.
Committee Details:
- Defence Committee: Chaired by Radha Mohan Singh, with members including Rahul Gandhi and Kapil Sibal.
- Home Affairs Committee: Led by Radha Mohan Das Agrawal from the BJP.
- Coal, Mines, and Steel Committee: Chaired by Anurag Thakur.

Nishikant Dubey from the BJP has replaced Shashi Tharoor as the chairman of the Communications and IT Committee, where Kangana Ranaut is also a member. Dubey and Tharoor had disagreements when Tharoor previously led the IT committee.
Additionally, Congress members Charanjit Singh Channi and Saptagiri Ulaka will chair the Agriculture and Rural Development committees, respectively. DMK’s Tiruchi Siva and K. Kanimozhi will lead the Industry and Consumer Affairs committees.
