Arvind Kejriwal can’t deceive the public with his act of sacrifice. By nominating Atishi as the Delhi Chief Minister, he has shown that he still holds power within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The theme of sacrifice in Indian politics is reappearing, now featuring new players in Delhi.
Kejriwal, who is facing serious corruption charges, recently resigned after getting conditional bail. One of the conditions of his bail prevents him from attending his office, effectively leaving him as a powerless CM. Thus, he had no option but to resign and frame it as a sacrifice.
It’s important to note that he has not been cleared of the corruption charges in court yet. His plea for justice from the “people’s court” is not a new strategy for politicians accused of crimes like money laundering. Many have used this tactic to undermine the rule of law and evade accountability by appealing to public support instead of facing legal consequences.
