Omar Abdullah, leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC), talked about the public’s hopes and the party’s future after the NC and Congress alliance won 49 seats in the 90-member assembly. This win gives them a majority to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said it’s important to work for the people and recognized the divide between Kashmir and Jammu. Omar mentioned that the new government will have a big responsibility to help people in Jammu feel included. He promised that the government would represent everyone, not just those who voted for the alliance.
He also said that areas with fewer MLAs would get special attention to ensure they feel represented.
In another update, NC leader Farooq Abdullah stated that Omar Abdullah is expected to be the next Chief Minister. He confirmed this decision and said the election results show that people reject the changes made on August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was abrogated. Farooq Abdullah thanked everyone for participating in the elections and expressed gratitude for the positive results.
