Bihar Assembly Elections Phase 2
The second and final phase of the Bihar Elections Phase 2 has begun. Voting is taking place across 122 constituencies.
According to the most recent figures, by 5 p.m. on November 11, the turnout had reached 67.14%.
This number reflects the fact that voters have come out in very large numbers to cast their votes.
Turnout was around 31.38% at 11 a.m. earlier in the day.
This steep increase is a sign of the voters’ gradually building enthusiasm.
The situation is secure with strong police presence. In the sensitive areas, the officials have not only deployed force but also taken additional measures.
They remind everyone that every single vote is important and that every citizen’s voice is important.
The battle is tough. The decision concerning the fate of 1,302 contestants, including some ministers, is in the hands of more than 3.7 crore voters.
This means that the outcome is vital for the state’s future.
On the other hand, polling officials are encouraging voters to continue with their participation. They say: “Come, vote, and be a part of change.” Indeed, the percentage of voters participating could alter the politics of Bihar.
What to Observe
-
What districts have high voter turnout rates? From the very first signs, Seemanchal and Magadh districts, along with other main areas, are doing good in terms of turnout.
-
Will the high turnout become the decisive factor for the victory of a certain coalition? This is not clear yet. There are several theorists who believe that the high voter turnout might be an advantage for the ruling coalition; however, there are also other specialists who entirely dissent from that view.
-
What will happen on 14th November? The counting of votes will indicate the voters’ mindset a lot.
Why It Matters
Democracy is at its finest when there is a high turnout. The government gets a stronger authority when citizens exercise their right to vote in large numbers. It also indicates that people are aware, are demanding good performance, and are asking for accountability.
In addition, in sectors such as Bihar, where development, job opportunities, and social reforms are of prime importance, the second round of voting is inevitably a personification of voters’ aspirations and selections.
